This fully revitalized beachside hotel is a future-forward blast from the past—and it’s set to put Galveston back on the map as a luxury destination.

Once a two-star motel named Treasure Isle, this dated ’60s structure had long languished on the Galveston seawall. When investors saw the opportunity for revitalization, they hired Kartwheel to bring their vision of a boutique beachside experience to life.

Refined yet contemporary, Kartwheel’s renovation will honor the building’s history while looking toward the future. The hotel’s exterior will be reimagined in soothing colors and materials, featuring verdant native plants, white brick, and warm mahogany.
Meanwhile, the renovated pool, elegant patios, and the addition of French brasserie-inspired restaurant and bar The Fancy are already drawing attention from critics and tourists from across the country.

“Working with Kartwheel immediately felt like I was working with a partner that had been with us for years. There is always so much thought and attention to detail that goes into everything Kartwheel touches.” — DAVE JACOBY, OWNER

DESIGN INSPIRATION

The hotel’s laid-back, yet sophisticated design is inspired by the past, present, and future of Galveston.

KARTWHEEL RETAINED THE HOTEL’S ORIGINAL U-SHAPED ENVELOPE, UPDATING THE CLASSIC MOTEL-STYLE COURTYARD WITH LIVELY MATERIALS AND COLORS TO CREATE A SPACE THAT WILL LEND ITSELF TO LATE-NIGHT CONVERSATIONS AND NEW FRIENDS.

The Fancy

PIONEERED BY JAMES BEARD-AWARD-WINNING CHEF JUSTIN YU AND LAUDED BAR OWNER BOBBY HEUGEL, THE FANCY WILL SERVE UP AMERICAN FARE WITH A FRENCH-INSPIRED TWIST. TAKING INSPIRATION FROM THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED MENU, KARTWHEEL’S DESIGN FEATURES MOODY LIGHTING, MID-CENTURY LINES, AND COGNAC LEATHER SEATING THAT CONJURE A CULTIVATED, YET FRESH TAKE ON A FRENCH BRASSERIE MIXED WITH LATE-NIGHT LIBRARY.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Bright and airy spaces with poolside patios will make each guestroom feel like home—if home were a retro beach house.

EACH ROOM WILL BRING GUESTS INTO AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE OF HOTEL LUCINE’S 1960S ORIGINS, COMPLETE WITH BESPOKE LIGHT FIXTURES, UPHOLSTERY, AND DRAPERY, PLUS BRIGHT BATHROOMS FINISHED WITH MONOCHROME TILE ORIGINAL TO BUILDING’S OPENING.
